    Alamire on CD Review 22.i.11

...i found the guest on CD Review this morning of great interest in his description of going about creating recordings, locating and working up manuscript, the discovery of the Chapel at Arundel and its sonic properties ..... but mainly because the music played was entrancing ... i see from the Obsidian website that they have made earlier recordings, but the ambition to create a 30 volume library of English music at the standard of the music we heard is to be praised ....

the bass in the 'freak' piece was spine chillingly good and the vocal textures clear rich and pure ....

can i have advance notice of such startling experiences in future please, my Saturday lie in was seriously disrupted .....

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

You've whetted my appetite Calum. Saturday's lie-in lasted until the lights went out on Strauss's mountain.

Sunday's lie-in (if I have anything to do with it) is going to feature that Alamire segment which is nestling on the SD card in the bedside DAB radio.

Being a big Tallis fan, I'm looking forward to it. Sounds like the group sings well, from your word 'entrancing' !
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Yes, this David Skinner / alamire project sounded an absolute must-have. And the Tallis jejunio et fletu was just glorious. Now, do we buy the thirty vols one-at-a-time as they roll out over the next ten (d. v.) years - or do we lie in wait and hope for a bumper box twelve years from now? Well, I'm 58 and conscious of tempo fugacing away like billy-o, so praps better to acquire and enjoy while one can....

        It really was glorious.

You don’t really believe that you can just sit and hear about the release of these CDs (three times every year) and not buy them for TEN YEARS? Get them as they come out and when or if a box set comes out, I am absolutely sure that you will find a good reason for buying it.
