Cheers, ami: I had no idea there was a Horenstein recording of the work! What a glorious prospect!

Crumbs!! Good link! Recorded in Nottingham in 1970: the infant Caliban was just up the road in his shorts!

I see on that link there is also a performance with Bychkov, and I find I have on my iPod two other performances - Bychkov but this time with the BBC SO, and also Osmo Vanska with the LPO - both saved from BBC broadcasts (and I was at the Vanska concert). Bit lightweight - Bychkov delivers more payload.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Thanks for clearing that up beef.
I don't see how GIVING money to a charity for something that others got for free would be "cheapskating", but it's new year, and as you have only just rejoined the board whirl, I think we should let it go!!!

I never said you were cheapskating, I just said I wasn't. Have you got a guilty conscience?

oh well, there you go. How can my conscience be guilty? I am smug over this, if anything .

(though smugness is a bad thing, obviously. unless you just got a great CD for peanuts!!)

EDIT: just off to hunt for a 2013 range of "Smug" Smileys !!
