Just noticed that Amazon have just added a tenner to the pre-order price for the Previn RVW Sym box.

I've recently been exploring the Vaughan Williams symphonies for the first time and I'm hooked!
I'd be grateful for advice on which set to buy..or should I collect them with different conductors? I'm tempted by the second Boult set as it also contains much other music.
There's an excellent and moving documentary on YouTube called The Passions of Vaughan Williams which I caught up with yesterday evening.
Thanks folks.

You'll find a lot of these on Naxos Music Library*** to try before you buy. (Choose label on the home page ring menu - then "Warner Classics - Parlophone" then "V", then page 2 onwards).
And of course the Previn was highly regarded and fondly remembered on vinyl (soon to be released on CD).
*** See the Naxos Music Library thread. If your library service does not give access, join at the Barbican Library next time you are in the city of London (no residential requirement). (Oh - also on NML you will find the Chandos label so you'll find the well or highly regarded recordings by Bryden Thompson and Hickox.....)

There are almost too many options. My first set was the Handley - individual CD releases, bought as and when they came out.
Regarding Boult, I prefer the earlier Decca Boult, but only just.
I would suggest as a starting point, the EMI Boult box set that has so much more music in it than other compilations. Then, from this bedrock, I would listen, mix and match!
Happy listening!

Yes - good advice from Beefy. The London symphony (no. 2) is marvelous in this set - a real gem, IMVHO) In summary, go for it; you won't regret it.
