No doubt they have been sent to charity shops or the storage boxes of shame - as now HIPP performances and before that " authentic instruments " records were all the critics told us we should listen to . Don't get me wrong I have learned lots from those recordings and they form the vast bulk of the recordings I have of baroque repertoire but some older performances still seem to me to capture the spirit of the music just as well .
There has been some recent rehabilitation of older baroque recordings judging by the music press but it seems largely for historical interest . I wondered what modern instrument performances are still beloved and played by forum members .
Two to start for me - Menuhin's Water Music recording - lots of bounce and Schneiderhan's thrilling Four Seasons .
