In my experience, what people will "fall for" varies considerably.

It's helpful if they give you a clue. A colleague recently fell for Jesu Joy so I gave him a copy of Stoki's Symphonic Bach (Bamert) which he's thrilled with.

"Nein, nein, das kann nicht sein", as the Three Ladies might put it - "No, no, it can't be so" cos it's Pamina's aria in the 2nd Act, No.17 out of 21 according to my libretto, so quite near the end of the opera. "Ah, I feel [it]" or more fully "Ah, I feel that it's all vanished, the bliss of love has gone for ever." She's feeling a teeny bit low at this point because she thinks that she and Tamino are about to lose each other for ever, but things will very shortly turn out right
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

It's a lovely aria altho a classical newbie might be stunned by the Queen of the Night...

A few more instrumental and vocal items to counterbalance all that orchestra.....

              Schubert Impromptus

Bach Violin Partita in E BVW 1006

Albeniz Suite Española no 1 (perhaps a better start point than Iberia)

Liszt - choose from Années de P Switzerland or Italy Bk 1

Scarlatti Sonatas - suggest K380, on harpsichord...

Rodrigo Fantasía para un gentilhombre - a gesture towards early music with its tunes from the 17thC Gaspar Sanz - John Williams

Schubert Der Lindenbaum, Du Bist die Ruh, Sei Mir Gegrusst, Nacht und Traume etc.....

Verdi Il Trovatore Act 4 scene 1 (Domingo/Price or Domingo/Plowright for preference) (think Marx Bros)

Bellini Norma duet Act 2 scene 1 (Sutherland/Horne for preference)

              Berlioz Trojans Act 4 Scene 2 Nuit d'ivresse et d'extase infinie (Vickers/Veasey or Heppner/DeYoung)

              Beethoven Waldstein, Bagatelles Op 126

              Allegri Miserere

The Rodrigo wound up making the CD. It bumped Greensleeves off. So far we've given it to delighted family members, both of whom immediately cited the Rodrigo as their favorite piece.
                I like the Allegri choice.
