A lamentable lexical barbarism (née Americanism) that's crept into British usage by way of Friends et al, I fear. I believe it is generally used of an item worth keeping in one's possession.

What's the antonym I wonder - with CDs it might be a "charityshop"? By the way I take it all back - yesterday I caught references to tweets, etc. Quomodo ceciderunt robusti, 2 Samuel 1:19

        A truly inspired response!

This shall enter the Thropplenoggin lexicon forthwith. I'll also get on the blower to the OED first thing tomorrow. There's still time to get this in all those 'Best Neologisms of 2012' lists.

Well, I'll probably vote for the Ida Haendel version...

I'd nominate "It works beautifully..." ... to denote that a performer's approach is approved of by AMcG.

I was aware of it last time (8.12.12) when he was in discussion with Mischa Donat, who I thought dealt very subtly with it, administering the lightest possible put-downs.

"Did it work for you??" asked AMcG

"I enjoyed it very much" replied Mr Donat calmly...

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

              Ha! Indeed.

I've never understood the point of a critical review programme that's scared to be too critical. I wonder if AMcG is forced to tone it down with a view to not offending any potential R3 performers and guests, which could include anyone still performing and recording. Rather limits the critique, non?

How did they react to the Klemperer box set last Saturday? I saw it mentioned in the playlist.
