I think that not having to worry about what the orchestra need to be told frees the soloist to concentrate on her/his part in the proceedings. Any views from our orchestra players and soloists?
I had the good fortune to play in maybe 7 or 8 of the Barenboim recordings, all of the Perahia, maybe 5 or 6 of Uchida/ Tate
and all of the superb Peter Serkin set of the 1784 concertos conducted by Schneider.
Perahia's overall keyboard style may be thought of as more 'Mozartian' than Barenboim's, ( if restraint, elegance and delicacy are indeed Mozartean).
Perahia's direction of the orchestra seemed to be more of a distraction from his piano playing than did Barenboim's.
DB was totally at ease, performing both roles with his customary charisma.

        fascinating, waldo.

Did you form a view about Uchida?
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

yes, I liked / like her playing enormously and didn't find it 'mannered' ( as observed earlier by a MBoarder) at all.
However I didn't think the partnership with J Tate was 'made in heaven' and would have preferred that she direct the orchestra herself.

I like my Barenboim box. After all as a chamber music player he is used to 'looking out for the others' if that non-musical expression is allowed. If he could keep up with Jackie an orchestra should be easy.

There are just some pieces of which I acquire multiple recordings, e.g. there are perhaps 5 or 6 Mozart PCs of which I have 3 or 4 recordings. Most I just have one (Perahia) or two (Perahia plus the new Zacharias ones that have come out so far).
I don't listen all the time. It's just that when one goes into a Mozart PC 'phase', it's nice to have some options on the shelf that are the product of careful listening & selection, maybe years earlier!

I am still not at all sure about this Uchida - the K271 is growing on me( though the first movement still strikes me as too slow ) and I am going off K467 especially the first movement ( can't be specific why - an element of artifice , cleverness ?.

Does anyone have experience/opinions of the Andras Schiff/Sandor Vegh/Salzburg Camerata performances?

Did you perform on any of these, waldhorn?

To quote Stravinsky for the second time today: "Wow!" (pace ferney)

New release, brilliant IRR review (excellent Burton-Page)...

Concertos 17 and 22 - Bezuidenhout, Mullejans, Freiburg Barockorchester on HM. Startlingly dynamic & transparent, rapid and radical, tenderly beautiful in slow movements. (The trilling Starling of a Fortepiano is by Paul McNulty in 2009, after an 1805 Viennese Walter).

                        Stunning disc!

Perhaps French Frank could move this to a new thread for 'New and/or Alternative Mozart Piano Concerto Discs', where I can convince all and sundry to procure Howard Shelley and the London Mozart Players play No.s 20 and 23 (Chandos), usually under a fiver on Amazon.

I'd also be curious to hear how anyone has got on with Brautigam's new Mozart HIP concerto disc - 17 and 26 - on BIS.

I only have a couple of them but the coupling of 9 and 13 is outstanding.

No, regrettably not. I forgot to say, however, that I did play on about 50% of the Bilson/ Gardiner CDs and several of the Levin/ Hogwood ones.
