I thought as much, but thought it was worth pointing out that they have a distinct advantage in these circumstances!

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

The problem is that if you wish to purchase Disc 22, any 'song' over a certain length is only available as part of the whole album which in this case is 22 CDs at £58.

Thanks for reminding me about that recording. You started me off...I've dug out my ancient Heliodor LP which i haven't played for decades and renewed my acquaintance with it. It was certainly one of my favourites at a time when my collection was relatively small.

I saw her play once and was moved to dig out the programme which had a Hungarian theme. It was 1973 at the Gewandhaus under Masur - Kodaly Marosszèk Dances, Bartok 3rd piano Concerto and Liszt Dante Symphony.

Towards the end of her career/life Annie Fischer gave quite a few recitals at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and at least one at Aldeburgh. She was apparently a very nervous player, like Clifford Curzon, and the first piece/half was often a bit hit'n'miss while she sorted herself out - nothing serious just a bit untidy in places. But without fail the second half was always stunning - Schubert D960, Beethoven Op 106, Schumann Fantasie all stick in my mind.

Here is film of a performance of Beethoven piano concerto that she gave conducted by Antal Dorati - I was thrilled to find it on youtube - how fortunate we are to live in an age when such treasure is freely available

Yes, I agree that's the trap.

I loved that lp as a teenager. I did a lot of studying with it on repeat play!

Still off-topic, there's also the Bartok 3rd with Fricsay and the Bavarian RSO on the Orfeo CD which is the "fill-up" (some fill-up) to Fricsay's incandescent and searing account of the Pathétique. It (the Bartok) is a very fine performance indeed, worthy to sit alongside the wonderful Beethoven 3rd. And then there's Clara Haskil .....
