Thanks for the thought, MickyD. I managed to find and order a 'like new' s/h copy of the original release on L'Oiseau Lyre with the libretto.

Great news! I'm very happy for you...those old l'Oiseau Lyre boxes are well worth having because the booklets are so good.

I recently downloaded this from the DG site via FLAC in CD quality, to replace my ancient worn out LP. It sounds superb, much better than the LP, and what a performance!

It's been on CD at least twice and must surely reappear at some stage.

            Meanwhile, it's in this box

            A snip, as they say.

Specifically vol 20 of the above box so available at a much less eye-watering price.

Here is an interesting round up and discussion of Annie Fischer recordings:

Isn't it just ! A sensational performance . Probably my favourite of this concerto now just shading Gilels , Solomon, Barenboim, B-Kov and Perahia,

I'd really like to hear Jochum's Missa Solemnis, which seems to have a very good reputation. I can't even find samples of it anywhere - YouTube, Grooveshark. Any ideas if this will ever see the light of day again???

Well, as you've no doubt found out, it's available from Amazon at eye-wateringly stupid prices. I like to hope that issues such as this will surely see the light of day again if only to have the satisfaction of seeing the greed merchants demolished. With a superb line up of soloists and the peerless Concertgebouw I'd be in the market for that one myself.

They could have included this in the recent ICON box - eg the Bruckner symphonies didn't need to be included as they have long been and are easily available .

Yes, but unfortunately, the Icon box is from EMI and the Missa above is from the old Philips. Agree about the inclusion of the Bruckner symphonies though as that rules out a purchase for me.

You are still getting lots of CDs for only £35 though ! The Beethoven and Brahms cycles are really superb. Especially the Beethoven . The 5th and 6th in particular .

I've been listening a lot to Tatiana Nikolayeva's Bach on YouTube, given the extortionate prices of her back catalogue, both s/h and new.

This Art of Fugue has recently appeared on Melodiya for £12:

Does anyone know if it's the same version as this Hyperion release, which comes with a few extras but at twice the price!

Also, any chance of her rendition of the first three partitas being released? Even with the ropey sound at the start, this version of Partita No. 1 in B-flat Major eclipses Perahia for me:

Nikolayeva re-recorded it for Hyperion in London in 1992. It's also 2 discs of music (pretty short measure, though, at around 90 minutes but downloadable from Hyperion for less than £15). I can feel, though, an order coming on to mes amis at Amazon France for the Melodiya disc - thanks Thropplenoggin for bringing it to our attention.
