Strange to say, while I can still play 78s I can't play 45s! For LPs I have one of the very early Linn Sondeks - 33rpm only. For 78s there's an old 3-speed turntable but its cartridge has only a 78rpm-profile stylus.

Do still have a small box of singles and EPs but not much I grieve over too much. If Mrs LMP would allow me space for a 3rd turntable (I have one suitable in garage), or dosh to update the Linn, it could still be solved
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

It seems to be the way of it that a good deal of what we cherished back then turns out to have been good for that time, but not forever...but then I suppose we are always moving on, and that is good.
I guess that USB turntable can solve a lot of problems for changing technologies...but there will never be a perfect substitute for putting the stylus down on my scratchy copy of "Get over you"(perfect for this thread) or "Life begins at the hop".

As LMP rightly points out, the act of selecting just one song to listen to at a time can be a rewarding way of listening. I certainly spend an evening every so often doing just that. my singles collection is something is very dear to me !

Edit..the kids think its a bit bonkers choosing one song at a time out a big wooden chest of singles, but what do they know ?!
          Wow, lucky you

Sadly I had to give up indoor gigs following a rather close encounter with Blackfoot in the mid 80's....Ears ringing for a day afterwards, no permanent damage but a lucky escape.

no, you are right to be wary....even Jason and the Scorchers aren't worth ear damage ! I think they are much tighter on DB's these days, though the quality matters.
Pretty much the loudest i ever heard was The Cure on the "pornography" tour...but I understand they used the same system that Pink Floyd used for the Wall gigs at Earls court, and consequently it was good quality, and not at top volume. The sound was perfect, and not even a hint of ringing afterwards.
            Your warning is welcome, though.

Oh I don't like that Alwyn sonata at all, ER!

How I came by it resulted from incidental piano music in a very good Ravel pastiche style by Alwyn I heard accompanying a film about Matisse. Well I was only 15! Without having heard it (the sonata), I got my piano teacher to get me the score, and found it surprisingly easy to play at my Grade 5 standard. It seems very badly put together, and, as for the bombast at the end...

Judging by how I now don't feel like going to bed Karel Ancerl's Brahms 2 !

Thanks Mary. It has crossed the Atlantic a few times by the look of it....The only American bird I've seen this autumn has been a Baird's Sandpiper .

That must be some Schnittke's works. Even my lasy cat wakes up, when I turn it on)
