Kurt Sanderling's son Michael Sanderling is carrying on the family conducting tradition with the Dresdener Philharmonie. I saw Michael conduct the Dresden orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall, M/C last autumn with Sarah Chang as solist in the Barber concerto. I was struck by the orchestra's silky smooth sound. They also played Brahms's Variations on a theme by Haydn and Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E minor ‘From the New World’. I'm not sure what they would be like with more spiky and abrasive music such as the Rite of Spring.
