    Sperm in Alium

(Sorry about the heading.) I have just been reading in the new Private Eye about EMI's latest wheeze to cash in on Fifty Shades of Grey. I have not yet felt the need to read the book but in it apparently the Peter Phillips recording of Spem in Alium is identified as suitable background material for more daring bedroom activity and a compilation CD is to rushed out this month. The Eye points out that the work only last 12 minutes (enough for some maybe) and that the title is not actually connected with ejaculation.

Can it really be true that, as the Eye claims, Peter Phillips is providing an English translation of the text that gamely mistranslates 'be mindful of our humility' as 'be mindful of our humiliation' ?

I think that gay men have been well aware of the nutritional value for some time.

... surely Brumel's Earthquake Mass more suitable?

Jean, you have a sense of humour! Lovely. As for music to accompany it surely has to be Chopin? The Minute Waltz?

Well, I do like to think so, but that was PE's joke not mine...

Oh no, not even as played by Rubenstein. Feldman's SQ2 must surely be the work of choice, and if a recording, preferably that by the Flux Quartet. Though I suppose there might be those who would yearn for a little vibrato.

I am not even going to answer that Bryn because, I have censored myself!! Besides, Feldman sounds too tantric for words! How does one have the time to prepare a meal? Is there a loo-break? Give me Chopin any time. It's a lot easier.

I don't think so; Nicholas Parsons always says that it fades away.

When I saw this thread, I thought that it might be about new ways to propagate garlic. I confess to being a little disappointed.

Well, some kind of tric(k), anyway...

But what about Sorabji's first numbered symphony for piano solo, the Tantrik? It does at least play for several hours (or will do when someone actually plays it)...

That reminds one of the similarity of Tantric sex to trying to get the gas man to repair your boiler:

You stay in all day but nobody comes.
