    Stoki Bach/Handel

Have beean enjoying the 14CD Stoki boxed set (the RCA recordings)

This morning I was really enjoying the Bach (esp the Chaconne) and Handel until the final movement of the Fireworks music included actual fireworks. Nearly wet myself....

Well he always did like things to go with a bang! That chaconne is something special - but I think Bach has something to do with that too. I assume they have used the LSO version from the 70s? I've had that CD for years and it comes out regularly. Very un-HIP of course but so what!

Does that set contain some of those Decca Phase 4 recordings he made? Decca recorded a lot for RCA from about 1957 [the Monteux Enigma Vars for example] until they went independent and used free lancers like Bob Auger.
