....and in truth, far too hefty for my already groaning shelves. I'll make do with the Baryton Trios, a mere 21 CDs!

In spite of having thousands of CDs, why do I find myself in front of the shelves wondering what to play?

Do I really need three versions of the complete orchestral music of Liadov? Only three discs of course!

The Beaux Arts set of Haydn trios is wonderful, not to be left unplayed, but I know the feeling.

        Noooooooo, please don't say that.

It is still a pretty hefty survey though.
the legend "Volume One" was on a blue and yellow label on the cellophane wrapper....

And now - the voice of sanity speaks: I had a music centre with CD player combined but no CDs. I used to practise by opening and shutting the tray.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

For years I thought it was for resting your cup of tea or coffee on.

The thing is, I would never buy bulk downloads to fill my hard disc. There's a certain glamour value to having shelves of CDs. It's a visible statement about your music tastes.

Now I must go and look through my photo album...

                      Several.

The first was Pascal Rogé's Decca recording of Satie; the second was Pascal Rogé playing Poulenc. I marvelled at the miracle of a concert grand in my small bedroon

And if you do download the odd thing do you immediately put in on CD?

Every time, complete with printed details on the cd and original artwork, where available, on the inserts. If unavailable, for off-air recordings, I design my own.
There, I feel better having said that!
