I think concerts in the past were rather longer, with more room for a variety of pieces.
I think you're right. Shortened concerts give greater prominence to symphonies and concertos, thus making them the seem more correct - even better music - for concerts. Shorter pieces don't fit in easily any more. There's also been a trend towards completeness that dislikes, and looks down upon, excerpts from anything.

      And still is?

I hope you get the disc rather than a disappointing refund.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thanks for the wish, I have now had an apologetic email, and I don't have to return Joe Cocker! Instead they are continuing to search for my bleeding chunks.
PS A second email has arrived to say that the order has been shipped, fingers crossed !

Which particular bits of you are missing? Presumably not vital, as you've managed without them.

Good luck with that. I hope it goes well (& I hope it happens - you sound as if there is some doubt)

Thanks for that Flosshilde, it's August 31st, confirmed yesterday, but they sometimes postpone it, I hope not!

Thanks for the good wishes for my "kneecapping", I arrived back yesterday from a trip to the Lake District to find that the missing Wagner / Paray had at last arrived, so now my only problem is what to do with the Joe Cocker disc !
The Wagner is rather good, especially the Siegfried Idyll, does anybody know of a bad performance of this piece?

                        Good luck with that Ferret!

I had a new knee about 2 years ago - nothing to it, just take music to listen to and some reading material and tell your friends to bring in extra food if that offered is not to your taste

When they send you home, make sure you've got all the bits they promise like the lifting frame around the loo, bath seat, kitchen perching stool etc.

And try to keep as many of the physio appointments as you can - it really does make all the difference.

                        Roll on August

PS: Make sure you get one slug of Oromorph - it's divine

Splendid tips amateur51 ! Thanks for all of them. One point, what's Oromorph? It sounds like a mutant monster from a 50's horror movie, I love those !

For me, these are not BCs, Roehre. Rather they are abstracted whole movements. True BCs are wrenched (bleeding!) from continuous music, if you see what I mean.
