So pleased to see praise being heaped on Nicholas Anderson. I attended a wonderful series of weekly classes given by him in the 80s on the operas of Rameau, and his enthusiasm and knowledge was utter joy. I later made the happy discovery that he was a close neighbour of mine and often had some fascinating chats. He must be one of the few critics who is not in the least pretentious and truly loves his subject. His disappearance from Gramophone years ago was a huge loss to me, so I was delighted to discover he was in the pages of IRR.
