Arrived this morning: Monteverdi Vespers, L'Arpeggiata. The extracts I've heard so far show excellent one-to-a-part singing (which I much prefer in this piece), and some marvellous ornamentation from the cornetts, led by Doron Sherwin.

And Fagiolini's Striggio disc, to help keep it top of the charts! I'll listen to this with a glass of whisky to toast the memory of Richard Campbell (tenor viol here; continuo cello & solo bass viol on countless occasions), who died last week.

Somebody on these threads was bemoaning the loss of the Ivan Fischer ' Budapest Festival Orchestra Bartok discs from Philips. They are in the HMV Oxford Street Shop at the moment, five CDs for a tenner!

Curious. I have only seen (on the web) a three CD collection of Ivan Fischer's recordings of Bartok's orchestral music but there is/was a five CD set of Adam Fischer's recordings (issued on Brilliant Classics).

The three CD Ivan Fischer set doesn't seem to be available on the HMV website (though searching it is 'difficult'), Presto, MDT or Amazon and neither are the separate CDs either.

Britten Cello Symphony with Paul Watkins, Symphonic Suite from Gloriana and Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes. The BBC Philharmonic under Edward Gardner. (Chandos 10658)

Brahms Ein Deutches Requiem, Julie Cooper (Sop) and Eamonn Dougan (Bass), Gary Cooperand Christopher Glynn (Piano Duet), The Sixteen conducted by Harry Christophers. (Coro C16050). I always thought the orchestral version of Brahms Requiem was like eating too much heavy fruitcake until I heard the 16 perform it on TV in the Piano Duet version. A wonderful revelation.

Shostakovich Symphony No 1 and Symphony No 3 "The First of May", Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Vasily Petrenko. (Naxos 8.572396).

I am waiting for Martha Argerich's latest recording from the Lugano Fesival from last year. Looks like a real treat. The firebird for 3 pianos!! Also, Domingo the box set collection, as reviewed on CDR!!

Awaiting delivery of Kubelik's Gurrelieder from an Amazon Marketplace supplier. This was the first version I ever had (on LP back in 1975) and I am eager to renew acquaintance with it as it remains my favourite.

I have been wanting this cd for ages, then saw this on amazon marketplace for quite a good price and still wrapped to!, it's The Tallis Scholars udber Peter Philips. That classic recording called: Allegri Miserre. Great cd!!

Also arrived today is the latest installment of Martha Argerich's recordings from the Lugano Festivsl. This one from last year. Some really good music here. The Firebird for 3 pianos!! With quintets by Korngold, Granados and Schnittke.

My CD addiction shows no sign of abating. Kubelik's Gurrelieder arrived this morning while ordered from Presto on Tuesday night, arriving Thursday morning were the two new Karl Bohm reissues on Eloquence. Gunter Wand's Sony box of his 1970's Bruckner cycle is on pre-order with HMV.com.
