Some recent acquisitions from a used CD shop:
1. Lera Auerbach: 24 Preludes for Violin & Piano (BIS)
2. Franz Joseph Haydn: Quartets, opp. 71, 74, 77, 103 (Amadeus Quartet), on DG
3. Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 2 / Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5, with Benno Moiseiwitsch (BBC Legends)
Not that I've actually had time to listen to these, mind you .

I was given DG's Alban Berg Collection for Christmas. I haven't had a chance to listen to any of it yet but I'm particularly looking forward to the songs, although sadly there are no texts or libretti included. I don't suppose they're available as a download anywhere?

Martin, I think you're spot on (it must be the Tate-conducted concertos you are referring to). I posted this on another thread a few weeks back:

How surprising to find then that this performer's approach to the concertos just didn't tick the boxes for me, at all. I found something subtly but totally unengaging about them - can't remember in detail why, because the box went back to HMV as I knew I could never live with them. My recollection is that there was a lack of flow, infelicitous phrasing... Earthbound readings, I thought."...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

My most recent purchase was Carmen, with Grace Bumbry, Mirella Freni, Jon Vickers & Kostas Paskalis, & the orchestra & Chorus of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma conducted by Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos. Cost £4.99 in Waterstone's sale. No, they haven't started to sell music CDs - it was in a hard-back book in a series called 'A Guide to understanding & appreciating Opera'. It doesn't actually have anything that you wouldn't find in a decent CD booklet.

Mysterious that it was such a dud, that concerto set.

I bought the new Juan Diego Flórez disc "Santo" for my wife for Christmas. She seems to be in love with him and I will admit that he is slightly more dashing and a slightly better singer then me.
Some pre VAT-rise stuff is on the way:
Highly praised Chopin historical edition: Amazon have surely got the price wrong:
I also decided I needed the Rachmaninov as pianist edition:
