Quill (if that's not too presumptuous),

I take you at your word - have just ordered 5 & 6. Look forward to the experience - many thanks.

Thank you kindly, dear Alison. A most charming performance of a fresh and wonderful work. I'm eagerly waiting to hear BH's latest Bruckner 5 which will be in my Christmas stocking. Had you been 'previous poster' that would have been my choice for you.

I'd like to give Blomstedt's new recording of Bruckner 5 to Petrushka, Mahler 2/Jansons RCO Live (the off-air single performance broadcast I thought wonderful) to mahlerei, and Tasmin Little's Elgar VC to Alison. Madamesuggia's will be along in a while, Stravinsky from Ivan Fischer on Channel Classics. In fact, you may all like that one, as may I though I've not heard it.

Ive been very moved by Barenboim's live Beethoven, although im not sure which DVD that is that you mention. Often wondered if his 2 complete sonatas sets are worth a listen.

PJPJ, thank you!! Yes that is a great concerto(Please see Gregson in the current BBC MM!!) I have been collecting Doyen's series of Gregson's brass band music and anotehr played by the Cory Band.

I rather admire Barenboim's Hammerklavier Sonata, BQ!!

Id like to give Beethoven Symphony 4 LSO/Haitink
                        to Sigolene.

The narrative of the symphony beautifully unfolded,
no lack of drama and an object lesson in Beethoven timpani playing.

                        Happy Christmas Siggers.

Alison - something a bit off the wall which I hope you and sigolene (you beat me to it ) might enjoy - "Ancient Airs and Dances" on Helios, CDH55146 - the tunes on which Respighi's AAD's were based in their original forms, played on lute, archlute, baroque guitar, etc. by Paul O'Dette with help from Nigel North, Rogers Covey-Crump, John Holloway etc. - an utterly enchanting disc.

By the way how did your trip to Suffolk go (see old message board ) ?

                                Alison,

We finally pulled the recording and will enjoy gathered round this evening as we rest by the fire slipping in and out of snoozing.

                                Happy Christmas Alison.
