You can try out the search facility without subscribing. It looks good. You can now sort the results although you can no longer search by decade (as far as I can see).

Some of the 1970 ads are amusingly cheesy: an LP of Elizabethan vocal works accompanied by a consort of viols was billed as 'A Tudor Chartbuster'....

Also a very good Klemperer interview in the May 1970 edition. Apparently he was considering recording Bruckner's Second symphony. When Lotte K chipped in that she didn't like Bruckner, the interviewer (I can't recall who) quipped that she was misguided, while her father added 'Scandalous, I call it...'.

IIRC OK was once asked if he thought Mahler a better composer than Bruckner - "of course not". When asked why he conducted more Mahler he said, "because he got me my first job...."

Has anyone had the chance to try the search facility on the whole archive?
Yes Mathias - the search tool is very exhaustive, if a tad on the blunt side (you have to sift through ads mentioning the recordings for which you are searching, but as thumbnails are shown of the pages they are easy to detect and disregard).

I have been very pleased and have subscribed (for the first time in many moons), principally for access to that wonderful archive. It really is a treasure trove and has printable pdfs.

The snag I have is searching for say, Abbado and Debussy I get results for each on their own, not both - so I have to sift through loads of Debussy reviews, articles etc. I tried putting 'Abbado Debussy' in quotes as well.

I haven't subscribed and trialled yet, but try having two screens open, do Abbado search on one, and Debussy on the other. Do you get two lists that you can cross-reference?

Well, I have had no regrets whatever Mathias - apart from the hours lost by poring over the blessed archive! Ah, well.......

PS These searching tips I found useful: http://www.exacteditions.com/exact/s...ect=82680#nvss
