Well, surprising to me, at least. Thanks to the BIS website currently offering up its discs for us to hear, this evening I decided to try some of Sibelius' solo piano music for the very first time, only having previously heard his orchestral output. What a delightful discovery - I'm currently on some of the impromptus and can recognise some of the orchestral music in a different guise. I thought that maybe I would only ever invest in the Orchestral Music from BIS's complete edition, but now I think it will have to be the piano music as well!

So, BIS's novel idea is working! A sign for the future, I hope. It will save many of us buying many of these 'recommended discs' which turn out to be 'turkeys'.

You get a full CD of piano music in the 15CD BIS Sibelius box, which also includes all the symphonies and a representative selection of chamber and vocal music. I agree with you about the piano music - why isn't it played more often?

but there's no Listen button next to the Read More button (like there is with the CPE Bach keyboard music)

Yes, I had this problem, rubbernecker. What you have to do is enter "Sibelius" into the Bis Quick Search "by composer" on their front page. That will then take you to all the CDs and boxes available for the composer, and by clicking on individual issues you will be able to play whichever one you like. Trust me, it works!
