Excitement here - picked up the LSO/Jochum Pastoral for 75p on a second hand EMI Eminence CD . I had this on a worn out old tape . It is just as good as I remembered and makes me even more keen to see the whole cycle reissued.

Good for you. No excuse for material like this to be "unavailable" in a digital world!

I've just been listening his evening to the Concertgebouw/Jochum performances of the first and second symphonies of Beethoven. Pretty good if not perfect.

Preferable to Beareboim at the Proms?

I do not have all that Philips cycle but the LSO cycle from the late 70s is preferable in the 3,5,6 and 9 to my ears .

The DG 'set' 1 2 4 and 8 are to my ears as good as any anywhere!

Sorry, been away from the compewter for a while at work and concerts.

Rather different to Baremboim but not necessarily better. I don't get too judgemental over performances. But as it is a dedicated recording set, it should be in some ways. But it's not perfect, but then what is? Perfection is unobtainable ...

I happened upon a fantastically ferocious account of Schubert's Symphony No.8 ('Unfinished') on Spotify by Jochum and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. It's a DG disc backed with Mozart's Jupiter Symphony, but this no longer seems to be available other than on some ludicrously expensive Japan re-release.

Does anyone have any information on this disc?

                      Thanks.

Do you mean on CD? The LP seems to be available here.

For 'available', read 'for sale s/h' - at a very reasonable price'.

Apologies. Yes, I was looking for the CD.

But thank you for searching on my behalf!

If a download will do, it's available on flac from DG's web-shop
