Has anyone heard the latest recording from Vanska and the Minnesota Orchestra? I picked it up recently at a sale (£2 thank you!!) but have only heard it on a tiny cd player. It sounded good but I've not compared it yet with his earlier disc with the Lahti Orchestra.
Symphony No.2 Op.43 Sibelius.

The Kletzki is dazzling though - an order for the 1 and 3 on Testament I imagine must now follow."Let me have my own way in exactly everything, and a sunnier and more pleasant creature does not exist." Thomas Carlyle

Hi Karafan
Do you know the EMI "Artist Profile" series 2-CD set of Paul Kletzki? It includes a stunning Sibelius 2. Which are the
1-3 discs you have ordered? Are they 'old' recordings (ie pre-stereo)?.....
For a complete set, I think if I have to choose one, it would be the Colin Davis/Boston SO; a tough decision!

Hornspieler
My vote still goes to Berglund and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra; but then it would do, wouldn't it?

Hornspieler - The Berglund #2 with the Bournemouth is on the 'rare-as-hen's-teeth' Disky box is it not (his EMI box #2 is with the Helsinki PO) - I was very lucky to come across that one online for a not unreasonable £30 some years ago. (Stop press - I see even the EMI box is now nla in its complete edition - secondhand copies of that start at £70 and rise from there!).
So *ahem* as my groaning shelves already contain the Berglund box and the Boston/Davis there's no anxious hand-wringing to do here in Karafan Towers!
Happy listening!

Karafan I am not sure whether your set has arrived yet but I have finally got round to listening to the Mahler 4 on the other CD . What a delightful performance from first note to last and a lovely simply sung finale and then I think one of the finest Adagiettos of the Fifth I have ever heard utterly magical.
A terrible shame that he was not asked to record the whole work.

Barbirollians - Yes, the Mahler 4 was always highly rated with Kletzki and was on a cheapy cfp disc for many moons. Justifiably well regarded, you're quite right.
PJPJ - Yes, I managed to secure that black Silvestri box on Disky and it is very good indeed (I only had to remortgage Karafan Towers to get it!). Now that set is a rarity!
How about this longed-for Icons box containing Silvestri's Tchaikovsky symphonies 4-6 with the Philharmonia? Have they ever made it to CD?
