The experts' choice: 5 favourite recordings from 2011

As the contributors to this forum appear to me to have much better taste than this morning's motley crew on CD review (excepting AMcG), what are the 5 recordings new to your collection in 2011 which you have most enjoyed? or to which you would urge others to listen? My choices (in no particular order) are: (1) Alexandre Tharauds's Scarlatti recital; (2) Chiaroscuro Quartet's Mozart Dissonance and Schubert Rosamunde pairing (I know it's HIPP but the playing .....); (3) Yakov Kreizberg's Stravinsky Ballets Russes trio of CDs; (4) the Testament issue of the Furtwängler/BPO Bruckner 5th; and (5) thanks to JLW, the Japanese remastered set of Vaclav Neumann's Martinu Symphony cycle. I could add loads more but these discs seem to be the ones I've listened to a lot (if the Abbado/BPO Das Lied von der Erde had been issued commercially that would definitely appear).

I bought the 'Larkin' box set - in fact, I played one-and-a-bit of them yesterday. 'Brilliant' is the word! (And the very informative and comprehensive booklet makes them even more of a bargain).

That's also my favourite purchase of 2011.

Together with (I'm going to break the rules as I can't decide):

                - Ravel: Piano Concerto in G (& Prokofiev PC#2): Yundi Li - BPO/Ozawa (DG)

                - J.S. Bach: Missae Breves BWV 233 & 236: Pygmalion/Pichon (Alpha)

                - J.S. Bach: Concerts avec plusieurs instruments V: Café Zimmermann (Alpha)

                - Shostakovich: Complete Preludes & Fugues: Alexander Melnikov (HM)

                - J.C. Bach: Symphonies Hw1, Nos. 6, 10 & 20: Leipziger Kammerorchester/Schuldt-Jensen (Naxos)

                - Shostakovich: Symphonies 6 & 12: RLPO/Petrenko (Naxos)

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

                  A fine selection Brother Caliban

I've listened to Yundi's Prokofiev piano concerto no 2 with great pleasure but I'm yet to listen to the Ravel - perverse to the end, c'est moi!

I must explore the others toot sweet

Do start with the Accentus Fauré Requiem... though the Bach Missae Breves would be more apt for the season...

The Gloria from the Missa Brevis in F is possibly my favourite single track of the year: it's now my alarm music on my mobile - I wake to it each morning!! Grab 10 seconds here... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0042I25V8... or splash out a princely 79p for the whole track What better way is there these days of spending 79p? Why, you can't even buy a decent snack-size pork pie for that!!! )

Corking stuff, Calibs, I must agree! It has gone on the list

Does the fair Anna know of your early morning habits? The pork pies she may well find alluring but such raucousness at dawn might be a deal-breaker

Struggling not to lower the tone and offend everyone, not least the fair Anna, with a post involving morning Glorias.... but it's beyond me!
