A mixture of cadenzas with Mozart, Hummel and Beethoven also involved . I was not troubled by Gulda's own at all . I found these recordings vastly preferable to the recent Gramophone editors choice of Anderszweski in K 503 and K 595 . Indeed, I think this is now much my favourite recording of K503.
Can I also recommend his digital recording of K488 and K537 (especially the former, my favourite for that work) with Harnoncourt and the Concertgebouw on Teldec. I like the way he plays along in the opening tutti to warm up...

Gulda seems to be singing along too judging by a listening on the headphones .

I am not so enamoured of Harnoncourt's rather beefy accompaniments .

I have also discover the live 1969 account of K271 with Bohm and the Bavarian RSO on Orfeo. A lively and charming performance and the Brahms Symphony 1 with which it is coupled is not to be sniffed at either.

Been listening a lot to K271 recently and as much as I have enjoyed the live Brendel/Mackerras ,Clara Haskil and Imogen Cooper’s versions - coming back to this I was very moved by it . It is an extraordinary work of genius and it sounds like it more than ever in Gulda’s hands.

Barbs's resurrection of this thread has had me get down again the BluRay disc of the four concertos he recorded with Abbado and the VPO (I think that I may previously have enthused about these transfers when I bought the set last year). Unfailingly interesting and stimulating playing by Gulda (and his cadenzas have worn well), excellent accompaniment by Abbado/VPO and transfers which are really excellent in their BluRay guise. In short, a real joy.
