    Petrenko Interview,CD Review 11/12/10

A very interesting chat with Vasily Petrenko on this morning's CD review. The short excerpt we were played from his recording of the Symphonic Dances was most impressive and has finally convinced me to splash out on the CD.

I''ve been greatly enjoying his on-going Shostakovitch cycle on Naxos as well, and was interested in what he had to say, particularly about the 10th Symphony.

I was hoping we might get a pointer as to what the next instalment might be!

By the way, this segment of the programme was listed in Radio Times as being at 10:30, but didn't actually take place until 11:10. This seems to happen a lot with CD review, which can be annoying if you've set your magic box to record just part of the programme, such as the Petrenko interview. I can understand some small discrepancy in the timings -but 40 minutes?

The timing thing is annoying sometimes. I was lucky this morning, I set my magic box once I'd heard the timings AMcG gave at the start of the programme - turned out to be exactly right, I've just got back to find the BaL, new releases, and Petrenko chunks very precisely recorded on three separate tracks on my SD card for listening (and maybe keeping) over the course of the weekend.

Planning a lie-in tomorrow morning to listen to the Shostakovich interview :)

    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
