It's a fine recording and good for those who find the Menuhin/Elgar too indulgent (Elgar relaxed his own tempi considerably on that memorable day). I slightly prefer Campoli/Boult on Decca which would have been Heifetz' main rival in the early 1950s. I think Campoli was underrated, partly for snobbery reasons, as he had made a name in light music first.

Elgar met Heifetz, but they didn't record together.
I have a CD GD87966 which has the 1949 Sargent/LSO coupled with a 1950 Walton VC with Walton conducting the Philharmonia.

That's the sensible coupling, as both recordings were made by EMI for RCA, who reissued the Walton mid-price in the '70s, but I don't recall the Elgar being reissued on LP. I have a nice clean copy of ALP 1014 which I've been listening to recently and regard as one of the best versions of the work, maybe the closest we'll get to hearing Kresiler play it.

The Naxos reissue has Heifetz'earlier version of the Walton, with Goossens , and a slightly different orchestration. .

Glad to hear you're enjoying these vintage recordings.
