Indeed, and the total timing tends to confirm that.

This is the identical SWR cycle to the one I bought on release and describe above - the 8-9/2002 Europaisches Musikfest live performances.....same year, same artists, same venue.....

This thread maybe a possible source for the Adam Fischer set comments.

What AF set comments ? I found it very much a curate's egg.

Very glad now to have got to know all of the Naxos Weingartner set- no wonder that VPO Ninth was so loved in particular . The only one slight disappointment considering its iconic status was the Eroica - yes it is very enjoyable but it did not send shivers down my spine as I had been expecting.

This was a response to Bert, for searching comments - It’s the Danish one on Naxos.

Ah yes, I liked some of it but could not stick the last three symphonies at all.

I downloaded the set along with the Weingartner set when the Naxos catalogue was available as very cheap downloads earlier in the year - I was, probably like you, more impressed by the Weingartner.

So if I have Norrington /LCP - Bruggen on Philips and Krivine do I really need Savall as well HIPP wise ?

I have all of those but the cycle I have in the past come back to most is JEG's, although Haselböck and Savall are getting increasing attention these days. But then I don't have any HUPP recordings of Beethoven symphonies apart from Chailly which someone gave me as a present and which, without wanting to seem ungrateful, I haven't played all of yet.

I will have to get the JEG set down from its shelf. I recall being less than inspired by it when I first got it. It's the Krivine CD set that I go back to most often. As to whether there is a need to have the Savall set to hand, no, not a need but, to me, certainly desirable as a complement to those Barbs already has.

What is HUPP intended to stand for ? I was very disappointed by Chailly’s Eroica and did not explore the rest.

Hysterically Uninformed Ponderous Performance? No, the acronym was, I think, expanded when first introduced on this forum as Historically Uninformed Performance Practice.
