I had on that Ace of Clubs disc, and I think you are right. I recall the exact moment of the turnover.

Yes, I believe after the 2nd brass fanfare, at bars 104/5.

Yes, those turnover points stay with you for the rest of your life. You just can't 'unhear' them. A couple of LP issues which handled them creatively were the original releases of Terry Riley's In C and Berio's Laborintus II.

Just seen that Eloquence are bringing out a 12cd set of London recordings ( Previously on Philips) of Colin Davis Beethoven recordings including a BBCSO set of the Symphonies, the Kovacevich PCs, Grumiaux VC with the Concertgebouw and the two Masses with the LSO. Methinks many of these have not been on CD previously.

Not sure I realised Sir Colin had recorded a complete set with BBCSO.

Me neither or maybe I’d just forgotten!

Looks like could be one or two symphonies with LSO to make a ‘London’ cycle.

Neither did I, though I can recall Sir Colin giving a Prom performance of the 9th with the BBCSO in 1970 which I think was the first live one I ever heard (via R3, of course).

They’re on Spotify and looks like 7 is LSO and 9 BavRSO but 2 Pastorals LSO and BBCSO!

                        Hope this link works:

A master Beethoven conductor in his prime – a 12-CD set presenting the ‘London’ Beethoven recordings of Sir Colin Davis, including the Symphonies, a selection of Overtures, the five Piano Concertos (Stephen Kovacevich), Violin Concerto (Arthur Grumiaux) and the two Masses. These broadly-sung and spacious performances, unexaggerated yet alive, are collected together for the first time

It gives full details: contents, artists, and recording details.

Thanks. One of those occasios when there are too many duplicates of recordings I already have to make a purchase justifiable.

For once, it's the other way round for me so I can see an order being placed in the new year.

Although I have the Concerti the remainder looks very tempting - and I think maybe the Symphonies will be interestingly good.

You may recall that Sir Colin's 1961 recording of the Beethoven 7 with the RPO was a key recommendation for years. On the other hand, I have to say that a Proms performance I attended of the 9th with Sir Colin in 1999 was one of the dullest I've heard. What you'd call an 'off night' I think!
