"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

I'm not sure if it's exhaustive - I'd have to check further. I have some of the other boxes with Walter as conductor - which also have several different versions of what are now well known symphonies, particularly the ones by Mahler. Of course the box doesn't have any of the works with non American orchestras. I always liked this one with the VPO- https://www.discogs.com/Mozart-Vienn...elease/2884909 -VPO Mozart K525 which I'm amazed to discover dates from 1937. I think I have a couple of the 78s in my cupboard still, though naturally I don't have working equipment to play them!

The Bruno Walter box seems to be the worst set for this problem that I've yet encountered.

A very small amount of "damage" to loosen up the sleeves wouldn't come amiss, either, though I shalln't be using WD40 on the discs to ease insertion or extraction.

Even if you keep the CDs in good condition, it's hard to keep the book which comes with the Walter box in the same state. The pages can be kept clean, but opening the book, and actually trying to read it, clearly changes its state somewhat.
