Sorry, to carp, but it's getting very boring !
Quite right Ferret, but at times questions need answers! ..and it appears that the CD is not dead and most boarders love theirs.

Despite the dash to downloads independent labels don't seem ready to ditch CDs just yet. For instance BIS have confirmed a fast-rising proportion of their sales are downloads and yet they've still got an active CD and SACD schedule.

Reminds me of that old chestnut:

Q: Have you heard the latest Lloyd Webber musical?
              A: Probably.

                Or...

Q: why do people take an instant dislike to ALW?
                A: it saves time.

There are also the two puppets on Spitting Image -- " Mozart, a composer who farted a lot, Andrew Lloyd Webber, a fart who composed a lot"

Barely heard of him, and in any case it seems to be speculation.

He does seem to have "put it around" a bit! Stamina - giving Don Giovanni a run for his money. Perhaps he should try singing that part.

Don't tempt him, he's already murdered Dylan!

I see in Weep Shudder Die - Robert Levine notes a similarity between a theme in La Fanciulla del West and one of ALW's tunes.

Ah I see this has already been mentioned.

I've no idea. But the last movement of Brahms' violin concerto certainly does.

On borrowings I wonder if the writer of 'Born Free' had heard Shostakovich 5!

Yes, he had. On the sleeve of the original LP release "John Barry's Greatest Hits*", the composer states his "favourite composers" to be "Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich". I don't hear DSCH #5 in Born Free, but The Dawn Attack on Fort Knox (from Goldfinger) is a shameless "lift" from the March in the Leningrad Symphony.

(* = available with extra material on CD.)
