Mahlerei
Having finally heard Hyperion's spectacular recording I wouldn't want to revisit the BBC broadcast.

From the first Customer Review on Amazon.....
" Ultimately we have Roger Wright Controller of BBC radio 3 to thank for the whole project. He has been a friend to British Music during his time doing the job.............."
Discuss - use both sides of the paper.
Another question as a newcomer is is worth keeping back 23 pounds from Lady Goulds dress allowance or as a novice should I just stick with my possibly dud Czech off eBay?

If your referring to the Naxos recording Anton, then I wouldn't call it a dud at all. There may be some flaws in the recording but it's still pretty good.
I presume the RW statement must have been written by a friend. The evidence I've gathered over the past 3 years seems to clearly contradict the statement. Perhaps it should say 'been a friend to a certain number of British composers and a certain number of works'.

bbm, anton
My first exposure to 'The Gothic' was via the Lenard recording, first released on Marco Polo. I disliked it intensely and was ready to write off both the composer and the recording. This newcomer changed all that; definitely worth the cost of a frock or two :).

There is an English Music Festival with a distinctly weird set of Vice Presidents (and Paul Guinery too), but if the music is what you like the festival is what you'll appreciate. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
