    Bravo BIS!

I've just discovered that by going to the BIS website, you can listen to their CDs, seemingly complete, for nothing! I'm having a lovely afternoon trying out bits of Sibelius I don't know, and will no doubt now be glued to the PC dipping my toe (or ears) into other discs I've wanted to sample.

This is a fantastic service, congratulations BIS!

I hope you took the opportunity to listen to some of the wonderful Suzuki Bach Cantata series, Micky!

      Cor thanks MickyD!

I have had a great afternoon listening to Ronald Brautigam's wonderful Beethoven piano sonatas and listening/watching his Mozart piano concerto series too. And there's metres more too

      Such intelligent & joyous music-making - here's the link - enjoy!

I haven't even got to Suzuki yet, VodkaDilc - there's too much to enjoy and I feel like a child let loose in a sweet shop! I have no idea how long BIS have been doing this, but one thing's for certain, I can't imagine the likes of Decca or EMI offering such a service.

Well, virtually their whole available catalogue is on Spotify, free if you don't mind the adverts, or if you do, excellent value for a tenner a month.

              I must have a butcher's right away!

(Are we acting like twitchers advised of a vagrant flock of Scarlet Tanagers in a tree on Tresco, and compelled to flock there ourselves before they disappear?!)

I do hope the C.P.E. Bach harpsichord concertos and sonatas are there. I have them all, but everyone should be forced to listen to them

I hope they are better than his totally uninspired playing of the Schumann Drei Fantasiestuecke op. 111.

It certainly is a new development - BIS used to let you listen to quite sizeable chunks, but not to stream whole CDs.

Does anyone know what the bit rate is?

You have saved a lot of us from starting the New Year by feeling bored and annoyed. This is a perfect alternative to the absurd Mozart fest. Thank you!!

Yes!! Here it is (Re: C.P.E. Bach)

P.S. I do hope this is not just a running-up-to-Christmas thing.

MBers will be pleased to know that Robert von Bahr is planning a high-quality download service, so this is but a teaser. Robert is one of the industry's good guys and deserves our support. Inquisitive listeners might like to check out the Aho pieces, especially the symphonies.

And when I think of how much of my meager disposable income I spent on their stuff at Tower Records, back in the day...agh.

One of my favorites? I'll never forget Birgit Nilsson
singing Sibelius, particularly 'Svarta rosor', 'Säf, säf, susa', and 'Var det en dröm?'...outstanding!

The first exclusively classical music store on the web. Mail order and online store.

Let's not forget to show our support-- does anyone else but me feel guilted into buying hard copies of recordings we particularly like? Here's a link to the site!
