Does anyone have any ideas what they would like to see in their Chirstmas stocking this year? I'm hoping for the new Chailly/Beethoven Symphony set as well as Anne-Sophie Mutter's new disc of 21st C Violin and Orchestra pieces.

I get one Christmas present a year, and it is always a calendar. My ex-girlfriend has no access to computers; if she did, I would be telling her: a calendar, please. Last year I asked her, "Did you like the calendar I sent?" to which she replied, "Why do you always send me a calendar? Can't you try and be a bit more original?"
Yes, those long winter nights on the North Sea coast... What's a boy to do?
I'd settle for Stephanie Cole cooking Christmas Lunch in character...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
Don't forget - condiments are extra, should you wish to have your helping spiced up at all.
I've heard Sally Webster charges for extras too, so beware, Ofca!

I shall ask whichever of the Gould princesses seems to have a partial grip on reality as the Festive season approaches for Mahler 2/La Mer by Abbado with the Lucerne Festival as recommended on the Proms thread - I could possibly end up with any one of the other 9 if I'm lucky!
Do we still send Christmas cards? If so, where do we manage to find lovely ones of the quality some of us remember?
Why has the quality deteriorated so much? Why is the range of art cards offered by art galleries so restricted, eg to Matisse's Snail and Picasso's peace dove, with the few more interesting ones on offer sold only in ones, seldom packs of 5 or 10?
While by no means religious myself, I just hate what Christmas has become. But I would not go as far as Mr Pee suggests by implication.
I saw baubles and tinsel on sale today. Yes, we are all going to buy a tree today? Some of my decorations are handed down from my parents; I first put them on trees as a child so they mean something.
