A new section?I was wondering if there was any merit in having a section for people to list 'out of stock' 'wants' which might be lingering, dusty and unloved on someone else's shelf? For example, I would like to get hold of a copy of this Conductor: Roger NORRINGTON Performer: London Classical Players Performer: Lynne DAWSON - Soprano Performer: Olaf BAR - Baritone Performer: Schutz Choir Of London
Virgin, 5 61605 2, tr 5. having heard it on CoW the other day. Amazon lists three available from £25+ and up!!

Might be worth saying that this is Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem and Begräbnissgesang (the one piece of information you don't include above)!

Makropulos..many many thanks for taking the time to search these out. I had no idea that Arkivmusic could make pressings. Anyway, after much head scratching and dictionary work I managed to order one from Germany.

Very glad you found one at a sensible price! I'm no Norrington apologist, but I do think this is a very interesting performance, and an enjoyable one.

I think a better suggestion might be to use the CD Review board - where the knowledgeable 'collectors' tend to hang out - and start a new thread with 'WANTED: &c &c'. If one person started doing it, it would probably encourage others to do so.

I continue to search for versions of Eine Alpensinfonie by Bartholomee, Hoey, Alsop, Inbal and Marcello, all of which are alleged to exist. There is a box set with the first of these at a silly price, but I would rather not be taken for a fool.

The 2007 Alsop performance was never, as far as I know, issued on a disc. I think it was just a radio broadcast? (I have a recording of it if you're interested).

Inbal's disc is easily available in Japan: http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/product/detail/1440594 (it's in a nice Denon reissue series - the cost of the disc is about £9.00, but there would be postage on top of that).

When you say "Marcello", d'you mean Marcello Rota with the Czech National SO? That's available in Japan too (but it's expensive).

D'you think 79.70 is a "silly price" for a set of *50* CDs?? I mean, it's a lot of money, but I don't think it's at all "silly" unless you only want one thing in it.

Yes, I know it's in the Wikipedia discography, but that has no catalogue numbers, so it's hard be sure... I'd be interested to hear if you find a real CD of this. All I know about is the broadcast (and I think it's still available online at npr.org).

This set is (IMO) quite wonderful with a great deal of interesting and fascinating repertoire. I am about a third of the way through it and enjoying it immensely although I have not listened to the Alpine Symphony yet as I am concentrating on the unfamiliar. I bought it for around £33 from Fabulous CD although AmazonFrance currently has it for a tad under 47 euros. There is a full contents list in one of the reviews on Amazon UK.

But I do have Asahina. Interesting lesser known versions include Delfs (download only) and Oscar Fried - the first recording ever made - acoustically.

I'm still looking for 'Donnerstag aus Licht' and I don't mean the pressing from the Stockhausen Verlag, which I saw in a Berlin outlet at an staggering 110 euros for 4 CDs. Was the loony man completely out of his mind? (he was). The original recording was made by DG, and that is the one I really really want. If any kind soul has a copy gathering dust on their shelves, I will pay a reasonable amount to give it a good home.

Damn, I recorded that onto a Philips 2000 video cassette. Both tape and machine long gone I'm afraid. I'll check my audio cassettes but I think that C90 has gone too. I seem to recall it being rebroadcast on Radio 3.

Those were very early days for Video recording. I was at that performance so have never seen the TV broadcast. I don't recall a rebroadcast on R3 but all the cassettes I had at that time have also long gone.
