Conducting Beethoven from the piano on modern instruments

Apart from Cleveland/Ashkenazy this never has seen to come off for me though many praise the MCO/Andsnes.

Shelley is good in parts - Kovacevich and Barenboim sound much better with conductors .

Any views .
