Vikingur Olaffson disc pairing Rameau and Debussy was my most essential purchase this year, but it may have been released in 2020

            OK....
Lets add a 3rd category: "New to You......"

If you didn't stream or buy much released in 2021, what were your most exciting discoveries of 2021?

Thanks for the tip. Have loved Diepenbrock since I heard some live in Amsterdam

New to me - Ivan Moravec Chopin, old recordings of course but it knocks spots off all the new stuff. Followed by Ollafson/Debussy/Rameau.
I never thought Rameau would sound good on a real piano - I’m convinced now!

I had forgotten that the Cage Two^2 was this year. Martin's double album of Felman's Two Pianos and other pieces, 1953-1969 was an earlier delight, though the lack of Five Pianos was a disappointment. Fortunately, I have a recording from a radio broadcast of the work with Feldman, Tilbury, Birtwistle, Smalley and Savage participating: https://www.cnvill.net/mffivepianos.mp3

In my post only the first four are 2021 releases. The other two were notable 2021 purchases for me but were releases from previous years. The Cage is from 2017 so your memory was not failing you. I bought the Cage CDs quite quite recently as they are nearly sold out, now less than 10 left - apparently a sales surge brought on by the success of the Number Pieces box.

Snap. I too, only got the Two^2 this year. I somehow missed it at the time of release. One which I delayed getting for ages, hoping the promised Blu-ray version would appear, is:

I caved in when it briefly dropped to £7.37 (new) from amazon.co.uk. As you can see, it's pretty short measure for a CD. It appears that Brian Brandt simply has not got the necessary funds to finance the Blu-ray.

I have a Kit Armstrong Blu Ray featuring Vaiation works by Byrd and Bull paired with the Goldberg Variations. Is that the same recording?
