Autumn Highlights - New Classical Releases...

A Mozart K361 to die for (or perhaps, so full of love are its angelic voices, to die to...)...

A Beethoven 5th (With a 5-part scherzo and trio, but of course...) which has you wondering: did I ever really hear this before? I believe I never did, before tonight; it speaks to us from the beyond, éclairs sur l'au-delà.....

Farewell From Zurich - The Legendary 2011 Concert (Live)

    Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Released on 03/09/2021 by Prospero Classical

QOBUZ Lossless /CD (Luxurious hardback book presentation)..

An unfortunate turn of phrase, given the circumstances of the performance, perhaps?

      Hence the (parenthesis.......)

But Harnoncourt died in 2016. His last concerts were given in his beloved Graz in 2015 at the Styriarte Festival, of the Missa Solemnis...(released on Sony as he requested)...
So this was a farewell to Zurich, not quite the last will and testament....

Though, as the blurb makes clear, his health was already compromised. Looking forward to comparing this Beethoven's 5th to the Sony CMW recording issued in 2016.

          Change of subject:

Bruckner Symphony No. 4 in Eb Major 'Romantic'
Orchestra: Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. Conductor: Jakub Hrůša.

I think I might pass on this one. Fascinating no doubt, but all three versions? Great for a big Bruckner fan, especially one who can afford to buy all three scores as well as the CDs.

            Detailed considerations here......
A wonderful set (with excellent notes by the editor Korstvedt himself) which obsessed me for weeks.....

It really changed my (already positive) view of the 1874 4th....
I'll find out what Tom Service thought of it later....

What a wonderful Autumn for New Symphonic Releases, Bruckner especially.
Sad that there seems so little interest in them around here now.

(After the earlier Bruggen marvels, Just starting on the new ICA COE/Harnoncourt Box).
