    Glyndebourne CD bargains

A friend has alerted me to the Glyndebourne live recordings on CD, all of which are being offered at £5.00 each on Glyndebourne's own online site. I thought there could be some others on this forum who might be interested.
If you look up this page, there are a couple on p. 1, and then a lot more on the following pages:

I've just ordered Betrothal in a Monastery, Jurowski's Meistersinger, Donizetti and Verdi from the 60s, and a couple of others. At that price, I didn't feel the need to be picky. Things like Elder's Billy Budd as well...I assume they're discontinuing the series, so I doubt this offer will last for ever.

I found five sets I wanted but when I tried to complete the order I got: "Sorry, no quotes are available for this order at this time".

I picked up a few last week at the Glyndebourne shop. One problem I had was trying to remember which ones I'd bought last year, but in the end the only duplicate I made was of Rusalka - someone will get that as a present.

I had a discussion with a couple of others about the Glyndebourne CD boxes. Apparently the reason they are being sold as cheaply as £5 each is because the organisation has decided not to make any more CDs, due it seems to a clear reduction in sales. Comments - "Who has CD players now anyway?". Obviously not everyone agrees, but it seems that streaming services have now more or less taken over - even though as we seemed to agree, the sound quality from a good CD is often better [and I know that some will write and say that a very high quality stream will be good, but ....]. The performance of the Wreckers was however being recorded, so I'm not sure how that will be distributed, but it does seem unlikely to appear on CD. Could perhaps be a DVD or Blu-Ray release, though I would expect that any form of disc/physical media would now probably be going the same way as purely audio formats, so what the potential for the recording would be I can't say. A historic document to be placed in the British Library, maybe?
