I don't know too much of that music - but it might be an interesting set to explore.

For a set of 34 CDs, I do think A Mcg could have given a bit more of an overview than he did this morning. It features some vintage Hilliard Ensemble recordings among others and I think at the price of around 60 quid, it will be well worth acquiring. Not least because many of the recordings are no longer available.

Duly ordered from Europadisc. Presto Classical are asking a rather inflated price. Way over that cited by Eurodisc as the full price from which their promotion is reduced.

If you really get into Josquin, take a look at the Tallis Scholars on Gimell, ...a mere 9 Volumes....

I just checked the Willaert in the box, by Ensemble Polyphonies, who I’d never heard of. They sing Willaert’s songs like they’re singing Schubert!

I also checked the Crecquillon by Ensemble Per Cantar e Sonar, again I’d never heard of them, and it’s also in a 19th century style in a way, all very consonant at the cross relations - but a bit less vibrato than the Willaert.

The last one (I think), Missa Mater Patris, was IMO the best Josquin they’ve ever done.

I used too low the activities of David Munrow, quite closely. Nothing else quite like him. In Memoriam RIP
