Not heard Pierrot before but loved it after just a few moments. Pat Kop is a colossally talented maverick – she’s never failed to thrill me with her 110% commitment in the concert hall. Here she lays down her violin and plays narrator – zany, wild, brilliant. The lavishly illustrated booklet is beautiful. Well pleased with the CD. Well reviewed in Times & Guardian …

Not heard Pierrot before but loved it after just a few moments. Pat Kop is a colossally talented maverick – she’s never failed to thrill me with her 110% commitment in the concert hall. Love her take on Pierrot Lunaire as much going by the snippets heard on Dave2002's link. Liking or not Schoenberg's mature music is so performance-dependent, especially with Pierrot Lunaire. Too many interpreters just get it wrong. Going by the wonderful Roswitha Trexler's rendition of Eisler's Palmström - or of the possibly better-known Zeittungschnitte for that matter, which I have from a long ago COTW`, I would think there is a close comparison in her approach and demeanour.

Mindful of a sad recent event, I recall someone saying years ago (although I cannot now recall who) that if he didn't know the dates he might have assumed Schönberg to have written Pierrot Lunaire for Jane Manning (who in the end performed it at least 100 times and wrote about it).

Pat Kop's performance here reminds me of what Cleo Lane and Annie Ross did with Walton's Facade., though Pat Kop takes even more liberties with the score. Both are fun, if not exactly faithful to what the composers wrote.

And less we forget, Cleo Laine made a good fist of Pierrot Lunaire as well, in a not bad English translation.
