The Alpha label always seems to not only have very fine artwork but an informative note, in the booklet, on the cover illustration.

Though I am not sure whether such practice was followed inside the boxed set of Beethoven Concertos they later issued.

I prefer recording write-ups within the package to elsewhere. I do often cram in information obtained elsewhere; it often involves a lot of scissor work!

I tend to copy the booklet notes pdf into the same folder/directory as the audio files.

I travelled the length and breadth of Poland in the 1990s and both of the Bacewicz cover pictures bring back memories though I've no idea where they are. I've been telling myself to cut down on CDs just lately but I'm tempted.

                ... possibly Warsaw Stare Miasto?

The booklets don't really give a lot of detail

The Piano Quintets - a busy street scene in Gniezno Poland, late 1960s

                    Absolutely!
ECM has stunning, often minimalist cover designs. In a class of its own.

I came to CD quite late, and this was released shortly afterward, when I could only afford a few precious discs per month. So I treasured every one of them.
I loved the perfect synergy here between the elegance, playfulness, colour and mischief of the cover art (Detail from "Allegory of Europe" by Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1722)) and the music....

OK You’re old fashioned but I agree - and the faffing around to get note the right size to fit a cd box is a real pain!
