Ok...I had bought a set of Piano Music of Prokofiev played by Anne Marie McDermot a couple of years ago on the Bridge label. I played it once, enjoyed it, then misfiled it, spent a great deal of time looking for it, then somehow it turns up today in the Prokofiev section of my CDs. I really like the humanizing effect that she supplies to the War Sonatas, treating them as music and not as bravura virtuoso showpieces

Torn between Kristian Bezuidenhout's splendid reimaginings of Beethoven piano concertos and Francesco Corti's whirlwind, impish but always musical renditions of a selection of early Haydn sonatas on a superb harpsichord.

However, pride of place must go to Sergio Azzolini's dazzling performances of the Vivaldi bassoon concertos on Naive. Azzolini has the rare gift of bringing out every nuance in this endlessly inventive music. Rarely, if ever, has the bassoon sung like this and for anyone who has not yet heard these concertos unfailing pleasure is guaranteed. Whether it is in whipping up a storm in one of his raging Allegros or depicting the early morning mist rising on the lagoon, Vivaldi's invention is endlessly captivating.

Outside of jazz my favourite was Bob Dylan’s Rough And Rowdy Ways. A tremendous return to form.
