    The Goldberg Variations played straight.

We have had mention of the Chris Maene straight string piano on the Forum before. Now we can wait expectantly for the release of Bach's Goldberg Variations played on such by Hannes Minnaar, whose recordings of the Beethoven Piano Concertos, with the compser's cadenzas (that for the 4th being new to me, though I am familiar with two that Beethoven wrote for he work), are much to be admired.

Here he is, playing the Goldbergs 'live':

Currently listening to the Youtube offering in synthetic surround, (well, you've got to do someting to breath life into Youtube's 128kbps aac encoding). A few sporadic coughs are to be heard from audience members but I find the performance, and what I can hear of the piano's timbres, attractive enough to want to purchase the studio recording when it is released.

Sounds very odd to me around the 44-46 minute marks, the interpretation that is, not the piano.

If you'd rather not have the 'half time break' (the Dean Manneke), you can use Video Downloadhelper to save and convert to mp4, then extract the 128kbps aac audio with Yamb and edit out the Manneke with mp3direct cut. All three utilities are free and have fairly shallow learning curves.

Ah yes! My mistake. Playing it in the forum page, there is nothing in the video titles or start sequence to suggest the Manneke, although playing it directly in Youtube does reveal all, in a rather obscure way. Playing is (IMHO) very Chopinesque - ok if you like Bach that way. I quite like the piano sound.

Could someone provide a link? I would be interested to read more about the instrument.
Edit: found it on second attempt....
