    Toscanini Conducts Beethoven: The Complete

I got this yesterday. I was looking for "Pictures In An Exhibition" but couldn't find it, but saw that this (Toscanini Conducts Beethoven: The Nine Symphonies), was also conducted by Toscanini and so bought it.

    I am LOVING IT!!!

Know little about the man Toscanini other than he was a very celebrated conductor, but I am learning more.

The symphonies are amazing. Beethoven is quickly becoming my favourite composer. I really like the 6th Symphony, but they are all fantastic.

Funny, I thought he had an orchestra with him!

Seriously though, you have made a good start and it will lead you to many other things. When I was a lad, early 60s, Toscanini's Beethoven was in the top 4 - Walter, Klemperer, and Furtwangler. He seems to have fallen out of favour [like the other 3] because of HIPP etc. Those early recordings from Pristine and others do show that HIPP is not the only way of doing these things.
