    HMV.com

Has anyone else on these boards had hmv.com say they can't get some new releases from their suppliers, or simply say the product has been immediately deleted?

    1. Panufnik Vol. 3 from cpo - said it was deleted though just released....... got it from MDT instead

    2. Rameau - latest release from Alia Vox - supplier cannot supply

That's just a couple for examples over the last few months.

Earlier this year HMV had problems with credit insurance, though I don't know what the situation is now. This would have meant that suppliers (particularly the smaller independents) would have been reluctant to distribute to them other than on a 'money up front' basis.

Bear in mind that many large retailers "live off" the cash flow generated by their suppliers credit terms, e.g. in the grocery distribution business these credit terms used to vary from 7 days to 30 days following the month of invoice (i.e. equivalent to an average of 6 weeks).

I wondered that - it would be more sensible to offer only those products for which stock is guaranteed, rather than irritate your remaining customers.

I tried to order the first version of Harnoncourt's St Matthew Passion from HMV, and must have had at least six or seven weekly notifications from them saying the product was unavailable. Finally last week they wrote telling me they were going to terminate the order due to no stocks available.

I had a similar problem trying to order Thielemann's Bruckner 8 some while back.

That would probably explain why Keith Jarrett: Koln Concert is recorded as "deleted" on HMV.com, but is fully available (in several formats) on Amazon.
