    Hanae Nakajima

Prompted by the recent "Music lovers, record labels and reviewers' attitude to 'budget' labels" thread, I note that this fine pianist and teacher has been mentioned a few times in passing in threads here but thought she might deserve a thread of her own. As for others here, it was her recording of the Beethoven 5th Piano Concerto that was my introduction to her playing. This was followed by a Radio 3 broadcast of her recording of Ravel's Miroirs, a broadcast that led me to seek out other recordings she made. I eventually found her boxed survey of Ravel's piano music (including the piano concertos) at the much missed Orchesography of Cecil Court, off Charring Cross Road. Sadly, that set went in a house fire, back in the late 1980s. However, the recording of Miroirs can be found on YouTube:

From a communication published in The Gramophone (linked to in the thread referred to above):

"Mrs. Hanae Nakajima, besides her international career as a performing and recording artist, was for 30 years a teacher at the Leopold Mozart music academy in Augsburg, Germany. In spring 2014, she recorded the complete piano works of Domenico Scarlatti in Japan. On Sunday, Oct 19, 2014 she will play Beethoven's piano concerto No. 4 in G major with the local amateur chamber orchestra at the occasion of the 750 year anniversary of Friedberg (a small town near Augsburg), where she currently lives."
