Young Kanneh-Mason has released a CD of works based on the Enigma Variations. This morning's 'Breakfast' played what seemed to me to be a totally pointless reworking of 'Nimrod' for cello and string quartet. It's the first time I've ever NOT enjoyed listening to this piece - this arrangement had nothing to add to what Elgar had already said.

Some composers are hard to better and I think Elgar is one of those.

He performs the Elgar Concerto with no less than the LSO & Simon Rattle
Nimrod is the only Enigma arrangement amongst the miniature fillers

A bit stiff to call the CD one to avoid until you hear it thru' (in Jan)?
