Is that the latest version? I think you will find earlier, and not necessarily lesser, versions for rather less outlay. I note that they have gone back to the excellent Blohmstdt set for the Symphonies. Several here got those as part of the 40 CD Brilliant Classics Beethoven Masterworks box a good few years ago. I picked up a 'spare' set for a fiver in HMV, along with the companion Mozart box for the same price.

There is also the 60cd set of COMPLETE MASTERPIECES on Sony - includes the Zinman symphonies for around £50.

As referred to in #13 (label misattributed) and #14. An excellent set. It also includes the Alexander Quartet's first recordings of the String Quartets. Not a patch on their re-recordings but still worth hearing.

I think so - one of the reviewers helpfully lists all the Brilliant LVB variants ...
PS to go back to your original enquiry don’t you have enough total LVB’s to be going on with?

Maybe, but this one claims to be the most complete yet. Whether a few newly uncovered obscurities is worth getting the set for is a contributory consideration.

I must have been in an ornery mood when I wrote “who buys these things” as I scan my shelves and see plenty of complete editions. A couple of years ago I bought EMI complete Mahler just so I have Horenstein Fourth, which had been unavailable for a some time. I was angry at myself for this extravagance (the downloadable Horenstein Fourth followed soon) but the set also contained many other recordings that I would not otherwise have bothered with, such as Barbirolli Sixth, and became glad to hear). This particular DG set however I think I have 80% of the contents.
