    The wrong Trovatore

I ordered a cheap 2nd hand copy of the late Pavarotti /Mehta Trovatore because after reading her autobiography I wanted to hear Verrett sing Azucena and despite being nearly 60 at the time AB in Gramophone was very complimentary about her portrayal.

A surprise awaited me on opening the box to find it contained 2CDs and a rather tattered booklet from the earlier Sutherland/Pavarotti version with Bonynge ! A version I know and which is very lukewarmly conducted although there is some lovely singing !

Not a pleasant surprise . Ever had this happen to you from Amazon marketplace ? Or other second hand sellers.

Barbs; presumably you'll be returning it for a full refund in view of the misdescription? In these circ's you should also be reimbursed any return postage costs: check the Amazon site for returns policy.
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

They have sent me a pre-paid returns label and they can have it back in their own envelope . I won't charge them for the sellotape !

The first time I ordered the (earlier) Mehta with Domingo, Price, Milnes, Cossotto, to replace my LPs, from an Amazon seller, it turned out to be a ripoff copy of the RCA version with dreadful sound quality. The gypsy's curse, obviously. Great role for Verrett, I'd say

I purchased a cheap copy of Kempe's Meistersinger from Gramex in London a few years ago only to find out too late that it was a rip off copy. I've never listened to it and keep meaning to buy the genuine article.

In my teenage years I bought an album 'Major Lance live at the Torch'. It was wrongly labelled and it was actually 'Ummagumma' by Pink Floyd so I got Prog Rock instead of the Northern Soul I was expecting.

My best was the Decca LP with sleeve announcing the closing scenes from the Nilsson/ Solti Gotterdammerung and Salome. Actual contents: highlights from The Count of Luxembourg

I bought a Naxos audiobook of an abridged version on Jane Eyre on 3 CDs. The first disc was fine, and the second was going well, when suddenly it switched to a very bad amateur musical jam session, which continued until the end of the disc. The replacement was perfect. I just can't think how this came about.

Music Magpie have quite a rep for this sort of thing.... I’ve not had the WRONG disc(s) delivered but I have Been on the receiving end of some very tatty slipcasses, missing libretto, etc. I think on one occasion they reimbursed me and let keep the discs.

I once got Les Mis instead of the Beria Sinfonia. I always wondered how the person who received my Beria felt!

... and a bit worrying that auto-correct prefers Beria to Berio!

Perhaps the NKVD are still listening in...

I had forgotten but you remind me that an Amazon coding error meant that Bohm’s Bruckner 8 did not arrive but a Julio Iglesias album did !

The Decca Mehta has arrived much more dramatic than the Bonynge but heavens Verrett very much the star of the show . Bloodcurdling stuff - she sounds very ready for sectioning.
